Florida special is the the closest thing there is to a “hardy” pineapple plant. This variety was especially bred for container growing it and it even tolerate light frosts (not freezes though). It can be grown in a container in any sunny location and brought indoors in the winter. The plant is slightly drought tolerant and can tolerate small spells with dry soil.

This is the easiest pineapple plant to grow. Hardy in the ground in usda zones 9-11.
