The Rio Grande peach tree is a variety suited for the warmer climates of the southern states. They need clear hot weather for good production and do not tolerate extreme cold. They produce medium to large firm freestone mild flavored fruit with a red blush on yellow skin in May. This variety requires heavier pruning for the owner to maintain the desired size of the tree and to encourage it to grow. Self fertile. 450 chill hours. Zones 7-9.
